Media Collection Development

The Media Collection is driven by faculty-requests for media. Faculty are encouraged to suggest media purchases in support of the curriculum.

Find DVDs & VHS tapes

Go to the DVD page in this Guide to search for DVDs, browse for DVDs, and use our DVD Booking Service.

Faculty check out videos for a period of 1 week, but are encouraged to return videos when finished showing them in their classrooms.  If faculty need a longer check out period, due dates can be adjusted.  Students check out videos for in-library-use only.

Find Streaming Videos

Go to the Streaming Video page in this Guide to search for streaming videos and to learn how to place video links in Blackboard.

DVD Booking Service

  • Faculty can book DVDs in advance by contacting Karen McCoy (phone: 619-644-7491, email: karen.mccoy@gcccd.edu).
  • Instructors can also provide a list of films and what dates the films will be needed. The request can be made at the beginning of each semester, or a few days before the DVDs are needed.
  • Faculty receive a confirmation email, and the films are set aside on a cart with the instructor's name on it.
  • By booking films, faculty can be sure that the films are available and ready for check out on the date requested.
  • Of course, faculty still have the option of checking out films on the day/night of class.

Media Reserves

Go to the Media Reserves page in this Guide.  The Media Reserves service allows faculty to place a DVD, VHS tape,  or CD on reserve at the Media Desk for their students' use.
